Scuff Plates

The ST was advertised as having stainless steel scuff plates with an ST logo.

These were unique to the ST and could also be illuminated.

There are also some myths surrounding these scuff plates to clear up here, see below.

From the factory, as standard fitment, every ST had stainless steel scuff plates with the ST logo. These were located on both sides of the vehicle.

This included all variants, from the ST-1, ST-200 and 5-door ST.

But as standard the scuff plates did not illuminate (except the ST-200).

If you added the optional extra Style Pack to your ST, for a cost of £ 250 then later rising to £ 275, you could have illuminated scuff plates.

These illuminated scuff plates were only illuminated when the door was open. When the door was shut or vehicle moving, the door sensor would switch these off.

If the Style Pack was not added, the scuff plates did not illuminate.

The special edition ST-200 had illuminated scuff plates as standard from the factory. No extra pack was needed to make these light up.

As mentioned, there are myths surrounding these scuff plates, one of the biggest is that there was actually only one part produced.

Also that it was the same part fitted to both sides of the car, and then left un-plugged to create the non-illuminated criteria.

This is false, there were four sill plates in total. Two that were illuminated and two that were without any electrical elements in at all.

They were also sided to each side of the car meaning they were different is a subtle way, but there are three ways to tell this; the ends of the scuff plates, the part number and the wiring location.

Starting with the non-illuminating scuff plates.

These were purely the upper stainless steel piece, with the middle red piece and then the black lower piece, affixed to the vehicle with tape. No wires or lights were present at all.

They were sided with the end of the scuff plate being the detail to identify which side it belonged to.

One end of the scuff plate has a longer section of the black plastic than the other end. The longer end of the scuff plate should be to the rear of the vehicle.

Another easy way to tell this, is look at the part number on the underside of the black plastic and compare it to the part numbers we have listed below.

The part numbers for these scuff plates are;

Right hand non-illuminated - FINIS 1806081 / Part number CM51-A132K14-CC

Left hand non-illuminated - FINIS 1806082 / Part number CM51-A132K15-CC

The illuminated scuff plates shared the same housing as the above non-illuminated pieces, but they had the lights and wiring inside.

Along with the ends of the scuff plates and part numbers as mentioned above, it is this wiring which also helps identity the designation and location of each scuff plate.

The wiring should be at the leading edge of the scuff plate, i.e. towards the front of the car nearest to the dashboard.

The part numbers for these scuff plates are;

Right hand illuminated - FINIS 1918009 / Part number CM51-A132K14-FB

Left hand illuminated - FINIS 1918010 / Part number CM51-A132K15-FB

Another myth to clear up is that of the ST-1 trim.

The myth was said that because the ST-1 trim level was the budget one, the scuff plates did not illuminate, even with the Style Pack added.

This is false, every ST variant (except the 5-door ST) could have illuminated scuff plates as long as the Style Pack was added.

A big myth to clear up is regarding the 5-door ST.

Yes they did make a 5-door ST, to read about it click here.

The myth is that the scuff plates should illuminate like all the other variants.

This is false. With or without the Style Pack, the 5-door ST did not have illuminated scuff plates, and there was no option to add these. The Style Pack for the 5-door ST was advertised without the addition of illuminated scuff plates.

Another myth surrounding the 5-door ST was that there was scuff plates in the rear door area.

This is false, there were only scuff plates within the front door area. There was nothing in the rear door area.

The scuff plates did have issues involving the illumination.

The issue was that the circuit or wiring would become faulty and only half of the scuff plate would illuminate.

Many people have tried repairing them, some succeeded, but the easiest option is the replace them with a new unit.
